Lakeside organizes weekend retreats for students at Alayo and Irawo centres, located in a serene expanse of land on the outskirts of Lagos. Retreats provide an opportunity to reflect on one’s everyday life. An atmosphere of personal prayer and recollection is maintained during the retreat.
People who excel in one aspect of their lives may not achieve the same level of success in other areas. For instance, it is common to find people relegating their physical health while pursuing professional success until they receive a rude awakening in the form of a health scare. One of the most important things in life is health because it can guarantee that we enjoy the result of our efforts.
When speaking about health, it is important to realize that spiritual and mental health is even more important than physical health. Health experts recommend a general health check-up at least once a year. If this is the case, we should also schedule a spiritual health check-up as often as possible.
Lakeside organizes weekend retreats for male students at Alayo youth centre and Irawo University Centre, located in a serene expanse of land on the outskirts of Lagos.
Retreats provide an opportunity to reflect on one’s everyday life in the light of basic Christian principles. An atmosphere of personal prayer and recollection is maintained during the retreat with plenty of quiet time. Each full day includes Holy Mass, guided prayer in the chapel, talks on Christian living, and the Rosary. The priest conducting the retreat is available for the sacrament of reconciliation and for spiritual guidance. Priests of Opus Dei give the retreats.
What are the symptoms of spiritual health issues? All those times when we see that we have lost track of our goals or when we are easily irritable, restless, disconcerted, and worried about how things will turn out and what people might say are signs that we need a checkup to get more spiritually healthy.
As St. Josemaria Escriva says, “Days on retreat. Recollection to know God, to know yourself, and thus to make progress. It is a necessary time to discover where and how you should change your life. Days of silence and intense grace... Prayer face to face with God…" (Furrow no. 177, 179)
